Obituary of David Gourley
David Greer Gourley
Age 91, of Joliet, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 8, 1922 in Cicero, he was the son of David G. and Edna (nee Stortz) Gourley, Sr. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and was an Aviation Radioman First Class, and recipient of the Purple Heart Award. On August 7, 2013 he participated in the Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.
He was a life member of Cantigny Post #367 VFW where he was a bartender for many years, as well as at the F&L Ranch. Dave was also a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago White Sox.
He retired from Uniroyal, Elwood, where he worked as an accountant for many years.
Survived by his daughter, Meg Grime; his grandchildren, David Grime, Sarah Grime, Riley Grime, Benjamin Grime, Logan Grime; sisters-in-law, Helen (late Robert) Gourley, Rita (late Paul) Carey, and Audrey (late Bill) Carey; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife, Rita G. (nee Carey) Gourley; his parents; his son, David Greer Gourley III; and his brother, Robert Gourley.
Funeral services for David Greer Gourley will be Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Memorials in his name to Honor Flight Chicago, 938 W. Montana St., Chicago, IL 60614 would be appreciated.
