Obituary of Helen Meyer

Helen W. Meyer (nee Whiting) Age 89. Peacefully Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Riverside, IL, she was a graduate of Riverside-Brookfield High School. She attended the University of Michigan, and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. When her husband returned from being wounded during active service in the Army in WWII, they were married July 11, 1945. They moved to Joliet in 1960. Member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and formerly of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. A volunteer with Joliet Area Community Hospice. Preceded in death by her husband, William J. Meyer, Jr. (1995). Survived by one daughter, Mary Ann (Bruce) Fritz of Glen Carbon, IL; two sons, John (Pamela) Meyer of Oxford, MS and Robert (Karen) Meyer of Gainesville, VA; four grandchildren, Brian Fritz, Stacy (Adrian) Barr, Jason Meyer and Jennifer Meyer also survive. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home and Angels Grace Hospice, the staff and medical professionals for the outstanding and compassionate care that our mother received. We will be forever grateful. Funeral Services for Helen W. Meyer will be Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 12:15 p.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Private interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be buried with her husband at a later date. Memorials in her name to Angels Grace Hospice, 440 Quadrangle Drive, Suite G, Bolingbrook, IL 60440 would be appreciated.
