Obituary of Joseph Marconi

Dr. Joseph M. Marconi, D.D.S. Age 70. Peacefully Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, following a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving and devoted wife at his side. Born in Joliet, he was a lifelong Joliet area resident. A graduate of St. Louis University Dental School with a Doctor of Dental Science (DDS) Class of 1970, Northern Illinois University with a Masters Degree in chemistry, the University of Illinois with a Bachelors of Science Degree, and Joliet Township High School Class of 1962. A Captain in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, he was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas in the dental service. Following his service to his country, he started his dental practice, retiring this year after 43 years of service to his community. He loved going to work, he loved the people he worked with and especially loved his patients, who trusted him to take care of their health. Member of the Will County Dental Society Review Board, where he served as Chairman for many years. A long time member of the Joliet Country Club. His favorite passions were classic cars, playing golf and playing cards. Preceded in death by his mother, Catherine (nee Manno) Marconi. Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Susan L. (nee Dempsey) Marconi of Joliet; two sons, Joseph Bradley "Brad" (Sara) Marconi of Channahon and Bryan G. (Megan) Marconi of Joliet; one daughter, Jennifer C. (Paul) Yanak of Plainfield; his father, Guido Marconi; and one brother, Michael Joseph (Susan) Marconi both of Joliet; five grandchildren, Lauren and Lucas Marconi, twins Cameron and Ryan Yanak; and one grandson on the way, Joseph Wallace Marconi (September 2014); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral Services for Joseph M. Marconi, D.D.S. will be Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet to St. Jude Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded under the auspices of the United States Air Force. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice, American Cancer Society or St. Jude Catholic Church would be appreciated. Visitation Tuesday 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
