Obituary of Robert Ancel

Robert Ancel "Bob" Age 63 of Minooka, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. Born May 12, 1951 in Joliet, he was the son of Anthony and Beatrice (nee Smolich) Ancel. A graduate of Joliet Township Central High School, Class of 1969. Proud member of Teamsters Local #179 and a truck driver for Werden Buck Company in Joliet, retiring in 2005. Bob was involved with racing all his life, starting with go carts and later drag racing. He enjoyed building race cars and will be remembered for his beautiful custom painting of cars and auto restoration. For the Ancels, racing was a family sport, with Route 66 Raceway and Byron Dragway being like a home away from home from April to October. Survived by his wife of 42 years, Lorna "Sue" (nee Zweig) Ancel of Minooka; one son, Dave (Gina) Ancel of Morris; two granddaughters, Darcy and Jordan; one sister, Lynnette (Larry) Johnson of Minooka; their daughter, Michelle Johnson; his wife's mother, Doris (late Kermit) Zweig of Minooka; one sister-in-law, Laura Johnson; and her son, Steven Johnson. Preceded by two twin sons, Brian (1976) and Gregory (1998); and his parents. Funeral Services for Bob Ancel will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Memorials in his name to Rock Solid Ministries, 25526 W.
