Obituary of George Fuchs

George M. Fuchs, Sr. Age 83. At rest Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Joliet, he was a lifetime Joliet area resident. A decorated Sergeant and Army Ranger Training Instructor, serving in the Korean War with the 5th RCT. He was the recipient of the Silver Star and the Purple Heart, among other awarded medals. Retired from Commonwealth Edison as a foreman after 40 years of service. Former member of VFW Cantigny Post #367. Survived by three sons, George Jr. (Debbie) of Sheridan, IL, James (Lori) of Janesville, WI and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Fuchs of Garland, TX; three grandsons, Brian, Eric and David Fuchs; two granddaughters, Kristi and Kaitlyn Fuchs; three great-granddaughters, Valerie, Savannah and Mya; one sister, Julianna (late Robert) Ballak of Joliet; one sister-in-law, Florie Fuchs of Joliet; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis R. (nee Miller) Fuchs; granddaughter, Becky; his parents, Frank G. and Marie (nee Weiskop) Fuchs; and two brothers, Frank and Matthew (Loretta) Fuchs. Funeral Services for George M. Fuchs, Sr. will be Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet. Pastor Dave Jaspers officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army. Memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
