Obituary of Charles Fey
Charles F. Fey
Age 81. Peacefully Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. Born January 23, 1933 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania as the youngest of six to a working class family. His father, Joseph, had emigrated from Austria before the outbreak of the first world war, and was a carpenter by trade. Joseph brought over to the states and sponsored his five other sisters from Austria after the war was over. Unfortunately, Joseph was killed in a car crash when my Dad was 7-years-old. The oldest son was Joseph, who enlisted in the Army. However, my Dad along with his other siblings Ray, Marie, Elise and Edna were sent to live with his father's sister, Louise in Chicago. He attended Hirsh High School, graduated, and then attended Chicago Vocational School to complete the program to become a journeyman carpenter. After graduating, he went to work for a short period of time with his cousin Frank, before forming a partnership with Larry Fey as carpenter general contractors.
However, he was drafted in 1953 into the Army. He was given advance electronics training where he was then posted to the signal corps. He completed his two-year service being honorably discharged as a private first class. Returning to the Chicago area, he married Kathleen Curry in 1955 and bought a home in the Pullman area of Chicago. He was the father of Charles and twins Joseph and John. Soon after, he started his own carpenter contracting firm and the family then moved to the West Lawn area where they had Thomas, and preceded in death, David. His business continued until the housing crash of 1971, but continued working as a carpenter.
He divorced in 1978. Shortly thereafter, he met his friend and longtime companion Pat Kieszkowski. They spent a good deal of time together traveling the area, dancing, dining, and enjoying the area's attractions. They were able to do a great deal more together after he retired in 1992. Pat preceded him in 2012, which was a great loss to him.
He is survived by his sons, Charles, Joseph (Rosemarie), John and Tom. He was the grandfather of Brian Fey (Jennifer) , Katie Fey, Jennifer (Aaron) Stocker (nee Fey), Colleen Fey and great-grandfather to Aubrey Fey and Kiersten Stocker.
Funeral Services for Charles F. Fey will be Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded under the auspices of the United States Army. As it was Charles' request, Cremation Rites have been accorded. Inurnment will take place immediately following military services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Fred C. Dames Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
