Obituary of Oliver Thompson
Oliver Thompson, Jr.
Age 42. Passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2014 with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with a lingering illness. Born in Joliet, he was a lifelong Joliet area resident. A graduate of Joliet West High School Class of 1990, Oliver loved sports and was a member of the football, wrestling, and weightlifting teams at JTHS. Oliver worked side by side with his mother and father at O.L. Thompson Transport Service, Inc. as a truck driver and supervisor for over 27 years. He was Past Master of True Lodge #136 of Kankakee, IL and Past Secretary of Marquette-Joliet Consistory #104.
Oliver will be most remembered by his family and friends for his strong work ethic, his sharp sense of humor, and his willingness to do anything to help those he loved.
Survived by his parents, Oliver and Lydia Jean (nee Gorden) Thompson, Sr. of Elwood; two sisters, Nicole Thompson Wilson of California and Alicia Hall of Baltimore, MD; grandparents, S.L. and Dorothy Gorden; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; niece, Brandi Hall; his nephew, Desmond Wilson; aunt, Cheryl Ann Jones; and cousin, Tonya Wiley, who brought him so much joy.
All friends and relatives are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 for a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at 6:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home chapel, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. On Wednesday a prayer service will take place at the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of prayer service. Interment to immediately follow at Brown Cemetery in Elwood.
