As I just got news of this tragic death, I first want to say my prayers go out to the family. I never met nor I knew Mr. Martinez, but I got to email his wife Sandy, who is a heart of gold! She helped me and my son go through the process of buying a van so that my son can get around, since he is confined to a wheelchair. Although I have not met her ( I am hoping that one day I get the chance to). Through the stories I have read and the pictures I have seen here, what a beautiful happy family Mr. Martinez had. It sounds like you all were lucky to have such a great man. I am greatful for the time he gave to this country to keep us safe! May God have him in his glory!! God bless you all and may the days get a little bit easier and I know that Mr. Martinez will continue to protect and watched over each and every family member.
Take Care,
A friend from Ohio

33 yrs ago I was welcomed into this world by an awesome man his name was David Martinez. He was my dad. He was the best father anyone could ever ask for and it breaks my heart everyday that he will no longer be here on earth with us. I know he's in a better place and he deserves his rest. Time to sleep father. I love him so much and will forever miss him and make him proud of the woman he raised me to be. R.I.PARADISE DADDY I LOVE YOU.

My memories of David Martinez.
For many years my cousin Sandra and I we're un-separable.
Growing up we were joined at the hip, sharing dreams, singing at church, hanging out, our love for each other surrounded those who knew us.
But life separated us, not knowing what separated us, who separate us, and why they separated us? It was a deep loss in my heart not having my best friend around.
As we learned how to adapt growing up as adults, The choices we made, brought us now even closer than ever, all because of this one man "David Martinez" who's "Love" has shown through my eyes what a wonderful husband he's been for my cousin Sandra.
I never had the chance to thank him for making my cousin Sandra so happy and seeing it in her eyes, the love that "Bonds" them like crazy glue. God knows why and when our time is up before we we're Born.
I would rather lose my own life so he would have a chance to continue to love my cousin as she deserves and show the world that God's love is greater then our own.
As, I sit here writing this and cannot contain my tears, I know we're not alone and God always seems to amaze me that his LOVE is our refuge in the storms and will never leave us.
I love you prima and let's continue our journey together, until God calls one of us home.

David and I met in 1973 when I was 12 and he was 15. Instantly there was a special connection. Being so young my father did not like him. He was always the perfect young man. We lived in Chicago in the Humboldt Park area. He went to the Cameron Public School, I went to Maternity BVM the catholic school. It was the 70's so rumbles by gang were very common. We lived on the same street and for some reason he felt he needed to protect me. Usually the Public school got out later than the Catholic School but on occasion the public school would get out earlier and would come pick fights with us. On those occasions David felt a certain obligation to come and protect me. I remember as if it were today he would ride his bike and walk along me. He would make sure I was home save. Sometimes he would tap my window in the night and I would sit on the legde until sunrise just talking all night He never did anything unappropriate he just wanted to talk about everything. That went on for over a year and I moved away. We married other people and divorced. I had 6 children i had custody of and he had 3 daughters. After 25 years we found ourselves drawn to eachother and 5 months later we were married. We lived a true love story every day of our 16 year marriage. Unfortunately, on 11/04/14 on his way to work he was in a fatal accident and was taken from us. Leaving 9 children, 19 grandchildren and a great gran child on the way. Our lives were better for knowing and having David. He served in the Marines, he was a 5th degree black belt , He was chosen to go to the Olympics in Greece but a family crisis happened and he refused to leave me behind. He told me that when we found each other again he found his Gold metal. David held 3 jobs in his adult the last one for 12 years at Cozzini/Middleby where he supervised their inventory and shipping/receiving Dept. He taught Karate for years as a volunteer of the Chicago Park District so many times buying students equipment while raising our supersize family. David was an active member of Restoration Christian Church, where he had accepted Christ as his savior and made public profession of his faith. He will forever be missed and I don't know why the say " Till death do us part" because that is just nonsense to me. I love you Honey until we meet again.
