Obituary of William Limacher

William Carl Limacher, D.D.S. Dr. William Carl Limacher, age 98, passed away in his home, Sunday, January 4, 2015. His last hours, like his entire life, were spent with his family and Billie, his beloved wife of 70 years. Bill was born August 29, 1916 in Joliet where he lived his entire life. He was the third of four sons of Dr. John and Lillian Limacher. He was a graduate of St. Raymond Catholic School, attended De La Salle High School and was the Valedictorian of the first graduating class of Joliet Catholic High School. He graduated from Loyola dental school in 1939 with a DDS degree and was awarded the coveted Blue Key Award for Academic Excellence, the Omicron Kappa Epsilon National Honor Society for excellence in Dentistry and Scholastic grades. He played on the golf teams at De La Salle, Joliet Catholic and Loyola. Following graduation, he began his Dental Residency at the United State Marine Hospital on Staten Island, NY. After Pearl Harbor, he applied for a dental commission in the Dental Corp of the United States Navy and received the Commission of Lt. JG. Before serving In Okinawa, he was stationed at the Naval Air Technical Training Base in Norman, OK where he married the love of his life, Billie Louise Rattliff. After the war, he returned home to Joliet, raised his family, practiced Dentistry for 75 years, 24 of them with his father, Dr. John A. Limacher and played golf. He was President of the Aescalapian Society, President of the St. Raymond Holy Name Society, a founding Member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, President of the Joliet Catholic Parents Association and President of the Joliet Country Club, where he was a member since 1946. He supported many charitable causes with his time, his money and his dentistry. In 2005, he was awarded the De La Salle Award by Lewis University. He taught his entire family, children, grandchildren, in-laws and great-grandchildren to play golf. He is survived by his loving wife, Billie Louise (nee Ratliff); four children, William Patrick (Sandra) of Winnetka, James Thomas (Agnes) of Joliet, Mary Therese (Ronald) Dell of Wheaton and Susan Louise (Douglas) Parrett of Champaign; grandchildren, Eli (Jodi) Limacher of Shorewood, Kirk (Hillary) Limacher of Winnetka, Meghan (Brian) Grienenberger of Chicago, Zachary Limacher of Seattle, Catherine Limacher of Joliet, Jacob (Caroline) Dell of Downers Grove, Adam (Lisa) Dell, Mariah Dell, Elizabeth Dell, John (Crystal) Parrett, all of Chicago and Anne Parrett of Milwaukee; great-grandchildren, Andrew, George, Henry, Ava, Audrey and Amelia Limacher. He was loved and will be remembered for his wisdom, faith and his wonderful sense of humor. Funeral Services for Dr. William C. Limacher will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for 10:00 Mass. Interment St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice, Lewis University or St. Francis University would be appreciated.
