Lucille Helen Smith

Lucille H. Smith, 96, entered eternal life on January 20, 2015. Born on July 31, 1918, she was the daughter of Anton and Sophie Jasinski. A lifelong Joliet resident, she graduated from Holy Cross Grade School (1932) and Joliet Township High School (1936).
In 1943, she married Thomas E. Smith in Virginia Beach, VA, and began her life as devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and gardener. She was a founding member of St. Mary Magdalene Parish and she and her husband were named to the parish Wall of Honor in 1999. She served as a dedicated volunteer pregnancy counselor for Birthright of Joliet.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her son, James P. Smith; and her brothers, Richard (Jean, deceased) Jasinski, Robert (Dorothy, deceased) Jasinski, and Donald (Virginia) Jasinski.
She is survived by daughters, Dr. Marcia Smith (James) Marzec, Susan Smith (Lennart) Lindell, and Wanda (Bruce) Gordon; grandchildren, Morgan (Lain Muirhead) Marzec, Hillary Marzec, Michael (Candace) Marzec, Jocelyn Marzec, Matthew (Anne) Kacskos, Iris Gordon, and Miriam Gordon; great-grandaughter, Maeve Marzec; numerous nieces and nephews, including devoted Godchild, Denise Jasinski ; dear family friend, Dr. Liane Stillwell.

Visitation will be Friday, January 23, 2015 from 2-7 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 221 S. Briggs St., Joliet, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Birthright of Joliet would be appreciated.
