William T. Garrity Age 89. Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Marie Elizabeth (Newton); loving father of Maureen Thornton, William (Denise) Garrity, Mark (Nadine) Garrity, Lynn (John) Conrad, Jeanne (Ron) Kloos, Carol (late Terry) Komon, and Beth (Matthew) Sebo; devoted grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of two; dear brother of the late Dorothy (Ray) Lindsay and the late Jimmy; brother-in-law of the late Geraldine (James) Cassidy and the late James (late Joan) Newton; cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. Patriotic WWII Army veteran, who went ashore in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945 while the surrender of Japan was being signed on the S.S. Missouri, and six days later raised the American flag over the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo with the 1st Calvary Division, Douglas McArthur, General Chase and others. Visitation Friday, February 6, 2015 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet from 3-8 p.m. Mass Saturday, February 7, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels.
