Obituary of Mary Ritter
Dr. Mary Catherine Ritter Ph.D.
Dr. Mary Catherine Ritter, age 71, died Thursday February 5, 2015 after a brief illness. Mary was born in Minneapolis, MN on May 10, 1943, the daughter of George and Lorraine Ritter. She graduated with a degree in chemistry magna cum laude from the College of St. Francis in 1965. She began her studies in cholesterol biosynthesis at the University of Minnesota, receiving a Master's degree in 1969, and then her Ph.D. in biochemistry in 1971, also from the University of Minnesota.
She moved to Chicago and worked in the lipid research labs at the University of Chicago, and then Rush-Presbyterian Medical School. She has many publications. She was retired at the time of her death.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her siblings, Dr. Dorothy Ritter M.D., Ph.D. of Madison, WI, Barbara (Richard) McHugh of Alpharetta, GA, Rita (the late Alphons) Bonde of Lake Zurich, IL, Dr. Therese (William) Weiser, D.V.M. of Meridian, Idaho, Lawrence (Lisa Evans) Ritter of Fountain Hills, AZ and Margaret Mary Ritter of Kankakee, Illinois. She also has 11 nieces and nephews and 15 great-nieces and nephews.
The Ritter family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital in Chicago for their care of Mary during her stay there. Also we extend our appreciation to Vaselka Rajic, Mary's good friend.
Funeral services for Dr. Mary Catherine Ritter will be held Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10:45 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
