Obituary of Norman Glenn

Norman L. Glenn Norman Lloyd Glenn "Norm," age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Norman was born in Verona, IL on November 27, 1924 and was a lifelong Joliet area resident. During his life, Norman worked many jobs. He worked as a bottler for Meadow Gold Dairy, usher at the Rialto Theater, pin boy at Jahneke Bowling Alley, Cessna Sail Plane Co., Montgomery Wards, Barretts Hardware, and drove cars for every car dealer in Joliet. He retired from EJ&E Railroad after 43 years, working every position ending up as Chief Clerk to the Agent. He was a United States Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 88th Division, 349th Infantry with the 81MM Mortar Company from Naples, Italy to Austria in the European Theatre. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star, American Campaign Ribbon, Eurp-Africa-Mid E Theater Campaign Ribbon with three battle stars, and Combat Infantry Badge. He is a life member of Stone City VFW Post 2199 and Cantigny Post 367. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Kathleen F. Glenn (nee Miller): children, Vicki (Chuck) Woods of Corona, CA, Joy ( late David) Videtich of Grayslake, IL, Patricia (Larry) Musson of Manhattan, IL, James (Paula) Glenn of Joliet, Cheryl Papesh of Joliet, Thomas (Hollie) Glenn of Napavine, WA, Scott Glenn of Rockdale, Gail Saunders of Plainfield; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor (late Richard) Salman of Plainfield, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Helen M. (Onderisin) Glenn, November 17, 1981, Lloyd E. Glenn, February 17, 1987. Norman enjoyed fishing, dancing, roller skating, and traveling. He displayed his dancing talent at many wedding receptions and most recently, last summer at St. Joseph Park. In his own words, he had a good life. Funeral Services for Norman L. Glenn will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road and Essington, Joliet to St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Visitation Friday, 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
