Obituary of Alvin Pollock

Alvin Pollock Age 92. At rest peacefully Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at his late residence. Born in Chicago to the late David and Mollie (Lee) Pollock, residing in Joliet the past 64 years. A U.S. Coast Guard veteran of WWII. Recipient of five Bronze Stars as well as the WWII Victory Medal and the America Area Campaign Medal. He received the U.S. Navy's Award of Valor for extreme courage in handling his landing craft under heavy mortar fire in the fighting in the Pacific. Alvin participated in the invasions and reconquest of Guam and Saipan. Former owner/operator of Collins Street Auto Parts, retiring in the mid 1980's. Member of Joliet Jewish Congregation and Masonic Lodge of Joliet. Survived by his four children, Randall J. Pollock of Philadelphia, PA, Audrey (John) Marks of Los Angeles, CA, Kenneth (Krisanne) Pollock of Joliet and Dayle Pollock of Morton Grove, IL; three grandchildren, Sarah (Russell) Shelley, Segal Boaz and David Corwin; one great-grandson, Barnaby Shelley; his devoted caregiver, Esleen Mae Delgado; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded by his loving wife, Rosalyn (nee Sager) Pollock (2012). Funeral Services for Alvin Pollock will be Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Joliet Jewish Congregation, 250 N. Midland Avenue, Joliet. Rabbi Charles Rubovits officiating. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Joliet Jewish Congregation or the American Disabled Veterans would be appreciated.
