Obituary of George Kosack

George B. Kosack, Sr. Age 88. At rest peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County. Born in Joliet to the late George and Catherine (Havrilla) Kosack and a lifelong resident. A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII participating in Operation Bikini Atoll. He served on the U.S.S. Reclaimer. Founded Kosack Formalwear in 1948 where he had remained until retirement. He married Margaret "Midge" Maurer on November 19, 1955. A member of the Exchange Club for over 60 years, serving as State President, District Governor of the Exchange Club, Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. Member of the Downtown Development Council and Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce. Volunteer of the Red Cross Disaster Crew. Recipient of the Black Tie Award from International Formalwear Association as an outstanding formalwear dealer. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret "Midge" Kosack of Joliet; four children, George (Kathy) Kosack, Jr. of Crest Hill, Lisa Gerrettie of Joliet, Lynne (Gary) Voigtsberger of Redondo Beach, CA and Gregg Kosack of Joliet; six grandchildren, Gary Kosack, Jr., Cali Kosack, Ryan (Stephanie) Kosack, Andy Kosack, Devon Voigtsberger and Mallory Gerrettie; one great-grandson, Tucker Kosack; one sister, Vernie Cartelli of Joliet; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded by his son, Gary Kosack, Sr. (1985). The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Sunny Hill Nursing Home and the many doctors and nurses at Silver Cross Hospital for their love and compassion shown to George. Funeral Services for George B. Kosack, Sr. will be Monday, March 16, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Wish Upon A Star Foundation of Joliet would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday, 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
