John B. Waggoner
Age, 84. Peacefully Monday, May 4, 2015 at 3:16 AM at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with family by his side. Born April 9, 1931 in Sacramento, CA to the late Lois (nee Boyd) and John G. Waggoner. At a young age his family moved to Mattoon, IL where he was raised.
Beloved husband of Stella (nee Gritsonis) Waggoner of Shorewood; loving father of Paul Waggoner of Chicago and Jennifer (Chris) Patselas of Ann Arbor, MI; proud grandfather of Juliana, Chrysanthe and Zoe; dear brother of Richard (Judy) Waggoner of Cornelius, OR; fond "Uncle Boyd" to nieces Laurie and Leslie and "Uncle John" to Hannah, Mac, Dylan, Grant and Reid; fond brother-in-law of John Gritsonis "who can fix anything".
Retired from Caterpillar Inc. after over 30 years designing hydraulic systems and authoring various patents. Master of Ceremonies and creator of gag inventions for many Cat retirement parties. An active member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church where he dedicated his talents as Parish Council President, Sunday School Superintendent, and Endowment Fund Treasurer. Also a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Ann Arbor, MI. Delivered for Meals on Wheels for 20 years and volunteered at the Shepard's Table with his wife. Served in the Army during the Korean War. Generous benefactor, woodworker, toymaker, joke teller, photographer, skier, sailor. A real engineer who "measured once, cut once."
Funeral Services for John B. Waggoner will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway St., Joliet. Interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated. Visitation Friday, 4-8 p.m. with Trisagion services to be conducted at 6:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet. IL. For more information: (815) 741-5500.
