Obituary of Evangelina Alatorre de Ortiz

Evangelina Mercado Alatorre de Ortiz, age 73, late of Joliet, formerly of Mexico City, passed away peacefully May 7, 2015, at the Joliet Community Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Evangelina was born and raised in Mexico City and later a resident of Joliet since 1975. An avid gardener, loving mother, and devoted person of faith, she will be missed by all whom she touched. Preceded in death by her husband, Xavier Ortiz; and parents, Victoria Alatorre and José Mercado. Survived by her brother, Jaime Mercado, sons, Fco. Javier, Victor, David, and Omar; and one granddaughter, Ameríka. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital in Evangelina's name or to a charity of donor's choice would be appreciated. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2500 Arbeiter Road, Joliet. Visitation will be private.
