Kenneth E. Vollmer
Age 71. Peacefully Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Regency Care Center in Morris with his family by his side. A U.S. Army veteran. Retired from Kerr/Ball Glass Manufacturing as a machinist and union stewart after many years of service. Ken loved woodworking, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and a boy scout leader.
Preceded by one great-grandchild, Noah Robinette; and one sister, Shirley (Jim) Dawson.
Survived by two daughters, Dawn (David "Stu" Stuart) Vollmer of Plainfield and Brenda (Donald) Combs of Missouri; one sister, Donna Mae (the late Lyle) Pettenger of Indiana; seven grandchildren, John, David (fiancee Selena Miller), Faith, Brian (fiancee Amanda), Kenny, Donnie (fiancee Sonya), and Luke; one great grandchild Trevor Neighbors and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Graveside Services for Kenneth E. Vollmer will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army. As it was Ken's request, Cremation Rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials in accordance with the family's wishes would be appreciated. No visitation. Fred C.
