John R. Vandervelde
"John Van the Fuller Brush Man"
Age 85. Peacefully Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Silver Cross Hospital following a courageous battle with diabetes with his family by his side. Born in Chicago and a lifelong Chicago area resident. A Korean War U.S. Army veteran serving overseas in Berlin Germany. Retired as an independent distributor of Fuller Brush Company after over 50 years of service. Formerly an industrial professional photographer for many years following his years in the service. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Preceded by his Mary "Sue" (nee Sanders) Vandervelde (2006); and one sister, Marilyn Overzet.
Survived by one son, Scott J. Vandervelde of Naperville; one daughter, Holli Anzalone of Naperville; one grandchild, Lee Anzalone; two brothers, Bill and George Vandervelde; two sisters Grace Wolbert and Theresa Reitsma. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Private Graveside Services for John R. Vandervelde will be held at a later date at the Maxey Family Cemetery in Amory, Mississippi where he will rest eternally next to his beloved wife Sue. As it was John's request, Cremation Rites have been accorded. Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. For more information: (815) 741-5500.
