Obituary of Terry Gjerde

TERRY L. GJERDE Age 66. At rest Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Born September 16, 1948 in Morris, IL to Harold and Charlotte (nee Hendrickson). He was a graduate of Lisbon Grade School, Newark High School (Class of 1966) and Illinois State University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education. He was a teacher at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Morris, IL for 6 years, and he was also a security guard with Pinkerton. He retired in 2004 from Lyondellbasell Industries with 27 years of service. Terry enjoyed playing poker, collecting fossils and computers. Survived by his loving wife, Kathleen A. (nee Farrell) of 45 years, married on December 20, 1969 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris, IL; one son, Eric (Liz nee Bird) Gjerde; one daughter, Heidi (Nick) Burton; his mother, Charlotte; grandchildren, Reiter and Reece Bird; two brothers, Ronald (Cathy), Richard (Allison); one sister, Linda Gjerde; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Harold Gjerde. Terry will be truly missed. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. A special thank you to Joliet Area Community Hospice for their compassion and care shown to Terry. Family and friends may gather on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m until time of Memorial Service at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Steven Schumacher officiating at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL. As it was his wish, cremation rites have been accorded.
