Obituary of Joseph McAvene

McAvene, Sr., Joseph M. Age 94. At rest Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center. Born in Arcola, IL to the late James and Lydia (nee Todd) McAvene. Residing in Joliet since 1957. A retired carpenter with Union Local #174 where he was a member for 56 years. Member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #300 and South Wilmington Sportsmans's Club. An avid fisherman who belonged to the Will County Fly-Tyers Association. Surviving are his four children, Joseph (Tamara Barnes) McAvene, Jr. of Joliet, Daniel (Ann) McGowan of Crest Hill, Kathleen Brown of Shorewood, Colleen O'Connor of Joliet; nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathy McGowan of Naperville; his only niece, Donna Epperson of Bloomington; his longtime friend, George Gibson III of Naperville. Preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette A. McAvene (2011); his son , Patrick McGowan; one brother, Paul McAvene; one sister, Dorothy Mylen; son-in-law, Paul Brown. Funeral services for Joseph M. McAvene, Sr. will be Monday, June 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to Holy Cross Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Enshrinement to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Monday 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
