Obituary of Anthony Uremovic

Anthony "Tony" Paul Uremovic Age 65, of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully Tuesday night. Born on September 6, 1949 in Joliet, to his father Martin Paul Uremovic and mother Mary Rose (née Frankovich). He attended St. Patrick's of Joliet and Joliet Catholic High. Tony then served 4 years in the Navy during the Vietnam War stationed in Hawaii working in high level Security Communications. After his time in the service, Tony graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree in Economics from DePaul University. He received his PhD in Economics & Public Policy Analysis from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Throughout his career, Tony had numerous jobs including an Examiner on the Midwest Stock Exchange, he spent ten years at the Joliet Federal Savings & Loan, and served on numerous Economic Advisory Committees. He was also a member of the National Association of Business Economists, the American Legion Post 1080, a member of the Elks Club and a past member of The Knights of Columbus. Tony taught at Joliet Junior College for 20 years and was the Chairman of the Business Department along with being a published author. He also proudly served as Joliet's District 3 Councilman and Chairman of the Finance Committee for 25 years. Preceded in death by his mother Mary (Mame), his sister Marie and husband Dave Hamm, and brothers Dennis, Donald and Paul Louie. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Mary Catherine (Cathy), his sons, John of Joliet and Michael of Chicago; his father, Martin of Joliet; sisters, Paula (John) Laskowski of Rochester, MN and Norma (John) Vilutis of Frankfort; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and endless friends. Tony loved his family and was loved by them more than words can express. He enjoyed everything about life. Vacationing with family, golfing, and being around loved ones was what Tony loved the most. He will forever be in the hearts of his family who love him dearly. Funeral services for Tony Uremovic will be Monday, June 29, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Chris Groh, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded. Visitation Sunday, 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home. For information (815) 741-5500.
