Obituary of Willis Schubert

Willis E. Schubert "Bill" Age 93, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center. Born in Joliet, and a life long Joliet area resident. A W.W.II U. S. Air Force veteran serving in the European Theater attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also served in the Air Force Reserves for many years following his active duty. Retired from Delta Airlines as an airline pilot captain after many years of service. Formerly employed by Northwest Airlines, Republic Airlines, and began his civilian aviation career with North Central Airlines. Following Bill's retirement with the commercial airlines, he continued in aviation by teaching others to fly in Joliet and Bolingbrook. Bill was also chief pilot for A&M Aviation and flew many charter flights following airline retirement. Bill especially enjoyed the peace and tranquility of his home, his oak tree, gardening, woodworking and caring for his animals. Bill had several published articles written on history, the Old West, and the Civil War. Loving father of William J. Schubert and Sharyn (Larry) Perinar; devoted grandfather of Larry (Patricia) Perinar, Jr., and Kari A. (Dennis) Sullivan; great-grandfather of Stacey, Brenna, Mitch, Ginger, and Rocky Perinar, and Jack and Fiona Sullivan. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Wanda L. (nee Mather) Schubert (May 21, 2015); parents, William and Florence (nee Page) Schubert; and one sister, Mary (Lewis) Bowers. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and aides at Rosewood Care Center, and the staff from Joliet Area Community Hospice. Funeral services for Willis E. "Bill" Schubert will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Air Force. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to the Joliet Area Community Hospice. Visitation Tuesday, 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
