Obituary of Gerald Alling

Gerald E. Alling "Jerry" Age 70, died peacefully, Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Joliet, IL. October 3, 1939 to the late Richard and Evelyn Alling, he was a lifetime resident. He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for 36 years, retiring in 1995. He also retired from the Empress Casino this past January after 10 years of service. Throughout the years, Jerry was engaged in the snow removal and landscaping service. He thoroughly enjoyed lawn maintenance, evident by his meticulous yard, and keeping his lawn care equipment in excellent working order. He loved the outdoors and his canine companions. Survived by his wife Charlene; son Mark (Trisha) Alling; daughter Sharyl (Stephen) Mathews; step-son Charles (Sarah) Magerski. Five grandchildren, Derek (Connie) Alling and Brianne Alling; Christina (Elford) Wheet; Holly and Marci Mathews. Four great grandchildren Todd and Maxen Alling; Eric Black and Madison Wheet. Two brothers Richard and James (Joan) Alling also survive, as well as one niece and one nephew. Jerry's family would like to express their gratitude to the Doctors, staff and caregivers of Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Provena Villa Franciscan, Provena Home Health and Joliet Area Community Hospice for the excellent care they all provided. Funeral services for Gerald Alling will be Monday June 14, 2010, 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
