IRENE BOORAS
(nee Cookas)
Surrounded by her loving family and trusted caregiver, Renata, Irene Booras nee Cookas, who celebrated her 96th birthday this year, peacefully passed away at her home August 30, 2015.
Irene will long be remembered for her tireless devotion to family, church and friends. In Irene's mind, everyone's needs came ahead of hers and this rare quality was present throughout her entire life. Irene brought love, comfort and peace to all who were fortunate to know her.
Irene is survived by her sister, Fran (Constantine) Macris; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Cookas; her children, Kay Hoppe of Chicago, George (April Hagerman) of Yorkville, Bill (Betty Dare) of Plainfield and Nick (Pam Helin) of Ottawa; eight loving grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Irene is preceded in death by her loving husband, William G Booras (2006); and brothers, Mitchell (Betty) and Al Cookas.
Irene was a committed parishioner and very active in various activities at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and also delighted in squaring off with friends in the game of bridge. Always beloved wherever she was….
Irene Booras will lie in state Friday, September 4, 2015 at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N Broadway, Joliet from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Stephen Bithos officiating followed by Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials in Irene's memory to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund or the incredibly caring hands of Joliet Area Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday, 4 - 8 p.m. with Trisagion Services at 6:00 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet.
