Obituary of Donald Stroup

Donald Raymond Stroup Age 78, of Crest Hill, died due to complications from a head injury on October 1, 2015. Loving father of Andrew (Karen) Stroup and Sharon (Jason) Walenga. Loving brother of Joyce (the late Norm Ross) Stroup, Barbara (the late David) nee Stroup Sanderson, Michael (Sue) Stroup, Judy (Richard) nee Concannon Lopacki, Thomas (Pat) Concannon, and the late William (the late Joanne) Concannon. Proud grandfather of Zachary, Celine, Tyler, and Luke. Proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan. Donald was born on June 11, 1937 in Dodsonville,Ohio to parents Forrest Stroup and Vivian nee Morey Stroup. His family moved to Chicago where he grew up. Later on, he resided in Villa Park, Addison, and Crest Hill. He worked at many different places during his lifetime, including H.P. Smith Paper Company, the U.S. Postal Service, Custom Rubber, L & T Mold Company, and Flexan Corporation where he finished his career as a machine operator. For many years, he also worked part-time as a security guard for United Network Bureau. Donald was a devoted and loyal family man and a loving father. He married Carol Whitlock on December 5, 1964 and the couple had two children together, Andrew and Sharon. He married Joan May on October 17, 1986. They were happily married for 23 years. She passed away on May 13, 2010 with Donald by her side. Donald enjoyed travelling across the U.S., Nascar, and attending his grandchildren's plays and sporting events. But most of all, he enjoyed sharing stories such as living through the 1967 Chicago snowstorm. His family and friends will always remember his remarkable memory, quick smile, and light-hearted humor. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday, October 25th, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at Golf Vista Estates, 4951 Augusta Blvd., Monee, IL 60449.
