Mary A. Vicich
(nee Grahovac)
Age 91. Passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. Born in Rockdale and a longtime Rockdale resident. A life member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Retired from Uniroyal at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant after many years of service as a lab technician. During WWII, she played softball on an industrial sponsored league. She was a lifelong Cubs fan and proud of her Croatian heritage. Mary was an avid bowler and was known for her excellent cooking and baking. Dinners at the Vicich home were extra special. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and was an accomplished Euchre player. She loved watching game shows, they entertained her to no end. She especially enjoyed spending time with the children and grandchildren and was affectionately called "Gigi" by the great-grandchildren.
Preceded by her husband, Elmer F. Vicich, Sr. (1995); her parents, George and Catherine (nee Plesha ) Grahovac; five brothers, Eli, Andrew (Eva), Louie, John and Joe Grahovac; and one sister, Ann (Michael) Strainer.
Survived by three sons, Elmer "Bud" (Michaelene) Jr. of Rockdale, Steven (Norma) of Joliet and Paul (Lori) Vicich of Mukwaunago, WI; one daughter, Linda (Richard) Faierson of Minooka; eight grandchildren, Michael (Tori) Vicich, Ann (Tom) Dakin, Keith Faierson, Robyn (Ryan) Osborne, Amanda and Emily Vicich, Nick and Hannah Vicich; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Dakin, Gage and Cam Osborne; one brother, George (the late Rita) Grahovac of Rockdale; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services for Mary A. Vicich will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale would be appreciated.
