Obituary of Marie Gallo

Marie Gallo Age 89. Passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home with her loving family by her side. A graduate of Providence High School. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by the Joliet Herald News and wrote a column, "Shopping Flashes noted by Marie". She was a soloist for many years at the Church of St. Anthony and a vocal student of the famous opera star, Rosa Riesa. She had great pride and love for her family who in turn treasured her many paintings needleworks and her Italian cooking. Later in life, she became a co-owner of Gallo and Ward Imports. After a trip to Medjugorie, she organized a Rosary of Reparation Service which is held once a year at several parishes in Joliet. Preceded in death by her husband, Victor (2007); sister, Dolores Hoerrmann (2015); her parents, Nicholas and Zelmira (nee Michelotti) Novielli; and son-in-law, Robert Cox (2014). Survived by her children, Michelle Cox of Joliet, Paul (Betsy) Gallo, D.D.S. of Joliet, Nicholas (Leticia) Gallo of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Christine (John) Neilson of El Cajon, CA; loving and proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren, Jana (Earl) Clark, Stephanie (David) Dolnak, Ryan (Aliyah) Cox, Andrea (Simon) Jordan, Melissa (Peter) Hickson, Renee, Lynette, Vincent (Rebecca), Theresa, Dominic, Victor, Joseph, James and Yvette Gallo; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the nurses and staff at St. Joseph Medical Center, 6th Floor, Our Lady of Angels and Joliet Area Community Hospice for their loving care and support of Marie. Funeral Services for Marie Gallo will be held Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorials in her name to Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 1433 Essington Road, Joliet or Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet would be appreciated.
