Howard R. James, Sr.
Howard, age 74, entered into eternal life on Saturday, November 28, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 7, 1941 in Chicago, to Joseph D. and Anne (nee Rieck) James, he was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the Navy. Howard was proud of his military service of eight years and loved telling stories. He was a diesel mechanic for over 55 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; uncles and aunt.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 41 years, Anita (nee Ellis) James; their four children, Howie (Julie) James, Christina (Andy) Andreas, Tim James and April James; their three adorable and cherished grandchildren, Caitlynn, Tyler and Tristen Andreas; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Bonnie) Ellis and Robert (Linda) Ellis; sister-in-law, Rose (Bill) Underhill; sisters, Pat and Diane; numerous nieces and nephews; and furry friends, Molly, Shadow, Abby and nemesis Hercules.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the surviving family to be distributed in accordance with their wishes would be appreciated.
Family and friends are invited to meet on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 40 Houbolt Road at Jefferson Street, Joliet, where a Memorial Services will be held. Inurnment to follow 12:00 NOON Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery 20953 W. Hoff Road Elwood, IL with full military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet.
