Charles Henry Crawford
Age 97. Passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in Chesterfield, MO. Born March 4, 1918 in Joliet, IL. He graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1937. In 1938, he spent eight months in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served in the US Navy from 1944-1946 during WWII as an electronic instructor.
His entire career was at Illinois Bell Telephone Company in Joliet, IL and Rock Island, IL. He began his career in 1939 and retired in 1977 as a supervising engineer after 38 years of service. His career was interrupted only when he served in the Navy.
Charles married Theresa Rosella Hulbert on April 26, 1941 in Minooka, IL at St. Mary Church. They had one daughter, Charlotte Marie.
Charles lived in Joliet, IL (1918-1935); Channahon, IL (1935-1962); Rock Island, IL (1962-1991); Fairview Heights, IL (1991-2007); and Chesterfield, MO (2007-present).
Charles was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America. He volunteered for 18 years fixing talking books for the blind and physically handicapped. He belonged to Ascension Parish in Chesterfield, MO.
Preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Theresa (2013); his mother, Helen Marie (nee Berg); stepfather, Clarence Lester Crawford; and his father, Charles Gilbert Hall.
Survived by his daughter, Charlotte (Bob) Seamands; three grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Seamands, Kathleen (Dana) Brash and Teresa (Ryan) Kerner; four great-grandchildren, Zoe and Zachary Brash, Morgan and Andrew Kerner.
Funeral Services for Charles H. Crawford will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 303 W. St. Mary's Street, Minooka. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Minooka. Visitation Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. For information: 815-741-5500.
