Obituary of Henry Offerman

Henry L. Offerman Henry "Hank" Offerman passed away December 11, 2015 at the age of 89 with his family lovingly by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Clara (Schreiner) Offerman; sons, Larry and Tom and his siblings, Rita, Richard and Ralph Offerman. Devoted husband to Kathryn (Birkey) for 65 years; caring father to Nancy (Mark) McMillin, Susan (Douglas) Gray, Douglas Offerman, Terrence (Pamila) Offerman, Timothy (Kelly) Offerman, Christopher (Kimberly) Offerman, Gregory (Christine) Offerman; grandfather "Papa" to Patrick (Abby) McMillin, Dan McMillin, Jeff McMillin, Eric (Erin) Gray, Paul (Charity) Offerman, Jennifer (Bob) Krahulic, Laury (Brandon) Schrader, Michael Gray, Stephanie (Lee) Clough, Bryan Offerman, Adam (Ally) Offerman, Alex Offerman, Chad Offerman, Neil Offerman, Zachary Offerman, Mathew Offerman, Christy Lynn, Ryan Offerman, Garret (Amanda) Offerman and Sarah Offerman as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Hank left a wonderful legacy that will be treasured by all who knew him. He played basketball and graduated from Joliet Catholic High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was in the Philippines and Japan during the Pacific Campaign. He came back home to Joliet after the war where he was a lifelong resident and met his lovely wife Kathryn and they were married in 1950. He worked for Weber Dairy for 35 years during the early morning hours delivering milk throughout the Joliet and surrounding areas. He also loved his time at Wunderlich Granite Company and then Olson/Troost Memorials into his early 80's, as Sales Manager. He dedicated many years of service as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Church. Hank also loved the Chicago Cubs and was a lifelong member of the Old Timers Baseball Association, VFW 367 Cantigny Post #367, Joliet Rivals Club, and the Joliet Moose 300 Club. Hank's number one love was his wife of 65 years, Kay, and his entire family. His friends knew him for his friendly and caring personality and his willingness to help anyone in need. He spent many a weekend at the Braidwood Recreation Club with his family enjoying life. He was an avid golfer, bowler, cribbage player, and loved playing poker with Norm Stoiber and friends on Fridays, even up to his last day. Henry was a husband, father, brother, friend, and the corner stone of our family and will be deeply missed. Visitation for Henry L. Offerman will be Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rds, Joliet to Holy Family Catholic Church, Shorewood where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Interment at St John the Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Holy Family Catholic Church or the Veterans Administration in his name would be greatly appreciated.
