Obituary of Ethelyn Schofield

Ethelyn B. Schofield (nee McCallen) Age 99, of Joliet, passed away peacefully Friday, January 29, 2016 at Symphony of Joliet. Born October 21, 1916 in Effingham, IL, she was the daughter of Rollo and Ethel McCallen. During World War II, she moved with her family to Ypsilanti, MI where she worked as a riveter manufacturing bombers for the war effort. Following the war, she moved to Joliet where she raised her family and worked as an Avon Lady for over 40 years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, as well as a mentor to her many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her cooking and baking, and her love of playing cards, especially Euchre. Surviving are her devoted daughter, Carmen (late Dennis) Schneider of Joliet; five grandchildren, David (Carrie) Schneider, Michael (Linda) Schneider, Christine (Timothy) Carrigan, LeAnn (Ken Jr.) Hibler and John (Geralynn) Schneider; eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great- grandchildren. She was also the beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews including Chuck and Jim McCallen, Peg Cutright, Sherry Herrington, and the late Larry Horath and Bess Hatfield. Preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Schofield; her parents; three brothers, Roy, Lloyd and Gail McCallen; one sister, Neva Horath; and a special sister-in-law, Dorett McCallen. Funeral Services for Ethelyn B. Schofield will be held Friday, February 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet.
