Obituary of John Prim

John J. Prim, Jr. Born: May 11th, 1920 Died: March 5th, 2016 Age 95, passed away at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Saturday, March 5th, surrounded by family and friends. A resident of Joliet IL for more than 20 years. Previously resided in Oak Hills in Palos Heights, IL. Former Longtime employee of Continental Bank. In retirement, he worked at Cog Hill Golf Course in Lemont, IL. He enjoyed playing the game of golf (or as he would say, walking around the course,) listening to big band music, mostly of the 30's and 40's watching football and golf, and meeting friends for a cup of coffee or an adult beverage. John served honorably in the Marine Corps in the Pacific for the duration of WWII and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Received a Citation "For meritorious and efficient performance of duty while acting as a platoon sergeant in charge of a section of Marine amphibian tractors during operations against the Japanese on Okinawa, Shima, and Ryukyu Island from 1 April to 30 April, 1945. Sergeant Prim's skillful and forceful leadership of his section during this and two other amphibious operations materially contributed to the successful accomplishment of his company's mission. His initiative and perseverance under most unfavorable conditions were an inspiration to those who served with him. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service." Commendation Ribbon Authorized. Son of John J. and Ethyl (Thompson) Prim. Preceded by his brother, Edward Prim of Houston, TX; sisters, Mary (Thomas) Hajek of Joliet, IL, previously Lemont, IL, and Catherine (William/Bud) Goodman of Joliet, IL, previously McHenry, IL. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Crawford) David Prim; son, John J. (Debra) Prim; daughter, Carol Ann Prim; and grandson, Sean Michael Prim. Loving friend/step-dad to William P David; loving grandpa to William P. (Anna) David III; and doting great-grandpa to Noah, Luca and Abigail David. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. John requested no wake or service, but his friends and family have asked what they can do.
