Riley B. Stover
"Smokey"
Age 78, a longtime Joliet resident, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home.
Born September 10, 1937 in Livingston, TN to the late Claris (nee Pryor) and Carnis Stover, he was raised in Southern Illinois and had resided in Joliet most all of his adult life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a dedicated 30 year employee of Amoco Chemical (BP) who retired in 1994.
Beloved husband of 52 years (wed September, 1963) to Barbara (nee Murphy); loving father of Joan Stover, Tony (late Peggy) Stover and Kathy (late Robert) Horkey; proud grandfather of Paige, Shane and Mallory Stover; also survived by two sisters, Ann (Larry) Kinser, Udean (Ken) Harris; sister-in-laws, Margaret Stover, Molly (late Ray) Glog, Kay (Ed) Buckman; brother-in-laws, Jim Boyd, David (Marlene), Leo (Virginia), Joe (Donna) Murphy and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jay (late Gwen) and Corbet Stover; one sister, Judy Boyd; two sister-in-laws and four brother-in-laws.
Smokey coached little league baseball at Belmont and Ingalls Park; he also played softball and enjoyed a good game of cards as well as yard projects under our warm summer sun. Over the years he joined several recreational clubs including the Ingalls Park AC.

Funeral Services for Riley B. Stover will be held on Wednesday March 16, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday, 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to the American Diabetes Association, St. Mary Magdalene Church Restoration fund, Sunny Hill Nursing Home or the charity of your choice.
