Obituary of Helen Contos

Helen Contos (nee Policandriotes) Age 92. At rest Wednesday, February 17, 2010. A lifelong resident of Joliet, Helen had been residing at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home for the past five years. A parishioner of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, she is remembered as a former Sunday school teacher, manager of the parish religious shop, and as "the candle lady." Member of the Ladies Three Hierarchs Philoptochos Society. Helen is survived by her daughter, Maria Contos of New Lenox and her son, James (Eileen) Contos of Bolingbrook; grandchildren, Michael (Candice) Contos, son of Gerry Harris; Stephanie Contos (fiancé Shawn Manis) and Alex Contos; step-granddaughters, Renee' (Beau) Wyatt and Jennifer (Philip) Hage, daughters of Glenda (late Anthony) Contos; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Landon Contos, Aleyna Manis, Cole, Addison, and Alyssa Wyatt, Kyle Hammack and Philip Hage; sisters-in-law Angeline (late Spero) Policandriotes, Lillian (late John) Brucer and Evelyn (late Bill) Contos; numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Contos; her son, Anthony G. Contos; her parents, James J. and Mary (Famales) Policandriotes; three brothers, John J. Polley, Spero J. Policandriotes, and Michael J. (late Jane) Polley; three sisters, Angeline (late George) Griparis, Irene (late Thomas) Kokas, and Evangeline (late Alex) Ninos. Funeral Services for Helen Contos will be Monday, February 22, 2010 at 9:15 AM from the funeral home to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church for services at 10:00 AM, Rev. Fr. Stefanos Bithos officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials to the Endowment Fund of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N.
