Richard A. "Dick" Johnson
Age 83, of Seneca, IL. died peacefully, Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Regency Care of Morris, IL. He was born to the late Sylvia (nee Klothe) and Edward Johnson April 25, 1933 in Rutland Township and was a lifelong Seneca/Marseilles area resident. He attended Seneca schools and graduated with the class of 1951 from Seneca High School.
Beloved husband of Carol (nee Spencer); loving father of Frank (Jaimi) Johnson of Leland, IL; dear grandfather of Brandon (Elizabeth) Elsbree, Brittney Elsbree and Jake Johnson; proud great-grandpa of Amelia, Nathan, Zoe, Kash, Eli, Gabe and Sven; fond brother of Edward M. (Mary Ellen) Johnson, Jr. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive, as well as his loyal canine companion, "Stubby".
Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Paul, Helen, Elsie, Arlene, Ferris, Viola and Mary.
A. U.S. Army Veteran, Richard started his career with Caterpillar Inc. prior to going into the service and after serving his Country, he resumed working at Cat, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. In later years, he enjoyed being self-employed, owning and maintaining vending machines around the area, fondly known as the "candy man" to many people. In his free time, Dick liked to read.
As it was Richard's wish, cremation rites have been accorded by the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory in Morris, IL. Private services will be held and his final earthly remains will be interred at Woodside Cemetery, Saturday, June 18, 2016. Memorials in his name can be made to the Seneca Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
