Sherwood Jackson died peacefully in Ottawa, IL on June 19, 2016 at the age of 93.
Sherwood is survived by his wife, Lorraine, and his sister, Laverne Schleevogt of Eden Prairie, MN. Other relatives include his nephews, Barry Marzuke of Morris, IL and Charlie (Linda) Schleevogt of Sheboygan, WI, and his nieces, Sharon Marzuke of Morris, IL, Pat (Terry) Rosborough of Bloomington, MN, and Mary (Miles) Schleevogt of Stillwater, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Lydia Jackson, and his sister, Alverta (John) Marzuke of Seneca, IL.
Sherwood was born on August 14, 1922 in Stavanger, IL to Simon and Lydia Jackson. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1944 with a degree in agricultural education. He married Lorraine (Johnson) Jackson of Seneca, IL in 1951. While teaching vocational agriculture in Mendota and at Seneca High School (IL), he also raised American saddle show horses, Hampshire sheep, and purebred Suffolk sheep. He judged in state fairs and international livestock exhibitions throughout the United States.
Sherwood was vice president of the American Suffolk Sheep Association and served on the Lasalle County Board of Health. He also was a member of the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Board of Directors at Community State Bank. In addition to being an active community member, he was also an active and a dedicated member of the Stavanger Lutheran Church.

Visitation for Sherwood Jackson will be from 2-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 at Deerpath Drive, Morris, IL. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Stavanger Lutheran Church, 2904 N. 32nd Rd., Seneca, IL 61360. Pastor Phill Peterson officiating. Interment will follow at Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church. All are welcome to celebrate Sherwood's life. For information (815) 942-5040.
