Obituary of Pearley Mae Reed

Pearley Mae Reed (nee Hawkins) Age 68. Passed away Saturday, July 17, 2016 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born in Swan Lake, MS and a Joliet resident for over 40 years. Pearley was a registered nurse for West Side Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago, IL caring for America's heroes for many years. Survived by two daughters, Angela Reed-Fox of Joliet, IL and Sarena Reed-Washington of Plainfield, IL; one son, Gene Reed of Montgomery, IL; three brothers, Tom (Bernadine) Hawkins of Richton Park, IL, Jurel (Gail) Hawkins of Dolton, IL and Bob (Edith) Hawkins of Chicago; nine grandchildren, Frances (Robert) Mitchell, Jonee Marie Schultz, Fasean Moffett, Samara Reed, Shelby Washington, Dylan Reed, Sheridan Washington, Geno Reed and Maximus Reed; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded by her father, Ben Hawkins; mother, George Etter (nee Chisom) Hawkins; brothers, Ben Hawkins Jr., George Hawkins, John Hawkins; and sisters, Earnestine Davis and Udora Washington. Private funeral services for Pearley Mae Reed were held at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Reverend Rufus Stephens officiated. Interment immediately followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. As it was Pearley's request, a private family gathering was held just prior to her funeral services.
