I wish dad was here I miss him so much, and would give most anything to have him call me up asking for help. His voice mails always started "Hey Tina it's you dad".. Like I would ever forget the sound of his voice. I love you daddy.
It was requested that I post the Eulogy that I read in church for my dad, so here it is.
We all know that in the natural order of things our parents usually precede us in death, but they always go too soon. While we knew my dad was sick I don’t think anyone expected God to take him from us so soon. But God know’s what’s best and he took dad just as his suffering was starting to increase. For most of my dad's life it was hard for family members to know if he was really sick or if he just had the sniffles, because like the entire family, he had a flair for the dramatic and could turn a minor unnoticed spot somewhere on his body into an exotic disease with a few leaps of logic and a Google search. Unfortunately his last illness was only too real.
They say whenever God closes a door he opens a window, and while the door that closed was watching my father get sicker and lose the ability to get around and take care of himself. The window that opened was that I got the privilege to spend a lot of time with my dad. We talked more in the last five years of his life than we talked in the previous 68, and he did love to talk.
He would talk about the good times and only talked about the bad times when pressed.
He loved to fish and like all fishermen he knew how to tell a tall tale. His stories were filled with memories that usually involved his buddies, brothers and beer, although not always in that order. He loved Fantasy Football and as his health deteriorated he spent even more time researching players and teams, and often would have me bring my tablet to the hospital so we could set his lineups each week. If I forgot to bring it, he would fret and obsess until I made a special trip then he could finally relax.
Dad also loved food, and it wasn’t unusual to figure out where and what we were going to eat before we knew what we were going to do the rest of the day. If he heard someplace had good food, he always tried to make a point of going there. In the last few years Lisa and I would try to outdo each other finding unique recipes or online treats we could send to dad. Fortunately he loved the simple things, Strawberry milkshakes and warm chewy chocolate chip cookies and his Snickers candy bars.
Dad was never shy about technology and often knew more about the newest gadget before most people even heard about it. Other than his computer his favorite toy was his Kindle. I don’t know how many people knew it, but dad was an avid reader, and probably read over three hundred books in the last few years alone. Thanks to e-readers dad was never again without a book to read, and mom was no longer was stuck going to the library and lugging huge piles of books home for him.
The last few times dad was hospitalized we talked more about death and dying. Dad wanted to make sure me and Lisa took care of Mom, he was worried about her being alone. He loved her and he loved us girls. His biggest fear of death was suffering as he died, but Dad had made his peace with the Lord and he looked forward to seeing Beth and the many loved ones who preceded him. Although I miss him so much and my heart is broken,God in all his mercy granted my father his last wish: his last breath passed his lips peacefully while he slept.

Grandpa
I didn't get to spend as much time with you as I'd have liked but when I had time with you it was a good time. I remember when we went fishing and you taught me how to fish. You helped me catch my first fish! Thank you for teaching me how to fish. Thank you for giving my family your fishing poles, hopefully we can use those soon. I remember I use to sneak your candies you had in the bowl on the counter (especially snickers) I'm pretty sure you know but I just wanted to say sorry. I hope your at peace and I miss you.
Love your grandson,
Eli

Grandpa I remember fishing with you and then you fell, and at first you didn't want to laugh but then you could not hold it back and we all were laughing so hard!
Wish we could have had more time but i know you are at peace.

Daddy
Did we thank you enough
For all that you did?
Guiding us thru life
To adults from a kid?
Always being so strong
A protector to us three
How we looked up to you
My sisters and me
Did we tell you often enough
How we loved you so?
And that we need you, so
please don't go?
But God has his plan, to take
you home-we know
And we'll find peace and our hearts will overflow
You forgave us our flaws, mistakes and unrest
You chose to forget and only see our best
We too choose to remember the
good times we had
To focus on the great memories-not to be sad
As we stand here today, with so much to say
We raise our hands to our lips and send a kiss your way
Be ready in heaven to catch our last good-bye-we love you daddy and
promise to try not to cry
Rest in Peace
your Loving Daughters
