Elna A. Vaughn
(nee Humphreys)
Age 89, of Joliet, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. She was born January 3, 1927 in Unionville, MO to the late Bertha (nee Lawson) and Richard Humphreys and was raised in Lewistown, IL where she operated a Beauty Shop after graduating from Liberty Beauty School in Peoria.
Survived by her daughter, Allyson Vaughn of Lockport; one grandson, Brad Hamburger of Lockport; one daughter-in-law, Connie (late Michael) Vaughn; her sister-in-law, Nancy Humphreys and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Perry Vaughn (1974); one son, Michael Vaughn (2012); two brothers, Eldon (late Betty) and Richard Humphreys; and her parents.
Elna retired as a Supervisor of the mail room at Stateville Correctional Center after many years of service. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Illinois State Retirees Association and Subchapter #73 of State, County and Municipal employees, as well as the Red Hat Society. She was also past president of the PTA at Gompers Junior High and FE Marsh Grade School.
In her free time, Elna enjoyed going out to lunch, visiting with her friends, occasional outings to the riverboat casinos and reading.
The Vaughn family will always remember the care and kindness of the staff of Joliet Area Community Hospice, caregivers of Home Helpers as well as dear friends Linda and Nicholas Hart and Nancy Wright, Elna's best friend.
Funeral Services for Elna Vaughn will be held Tuesday August 9, 2016, 12 noon at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Cremation rites will follow services with Inurnment later at Ipava Cemetery in Ipava, IL. Visitation Tuesday morning from 10 am until services begin at the funeral home.

Cremation rites will be accorded following services and burial of the urn will be in Ipava Cemetery, Ipava, IL at a later date.
