Obituary of Edward Allen Hernan
Edward Allen Hernan, age 83, of the Grand Haven Community of Romeoville, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.
Born and raised in Richland Center, WI, he was the son of John and Cora (Berkholtz) Hernan. They preceded him in death along with his siblings, Irene, Buford, Ruth, Vilas, John, Marianna, Robert and Michael.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen "Kay" (Ruther) Hernan; children, Vickie (Roger) Faivre of DeKalb, Ronald (Patti) Hernan of Ballwin, MO, and Diane (David) Dennis of Irving, TX; one stepdaughter, Karen Ruther of Tujunga, CA; six grandchildren, Joshua Faivre, Austin Dennis, Kelsey Faivre, Brianna Dennis, Brian Hernan and Michael Hernan; and his sister, Dorothy.
Ed served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and received both a bachelors degree in Bacteriology, and a masters degree in Food Dairy Science. He was employed for 30 years by the Campbell Soup Company, working in Chicago, California, Arkansas, Maryland, South Carolina and Texas, retiring as Vice-President of the Southwest Region of Campbell's USA. Following retirement, he resided in Washington State for 19 years before relocating to this area in 2009. He enjoyed golf, reading, playing cards and traveling.
Funeral Services for Edward Allen Hernan will be Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet. Interment in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors will immediately follow services. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
