I worked with Michael at the Dresden Nuclear Power Station from 1979 to 1981. It's been a long time, and we were only work colleagues, but I still remember him as a lively character.
It was unknown to me until I read the memorial, but it appears that both of us started the same year at Purdue University. For all I know, we might have even been in some of the same Mechanical Engineering classes, since I had to take a few. He graduated in 1977, which I would have, if I'd followed the normal 4 year BS program, but I took some time off to work and eventually graduated in 1979, with a BS in Nuclear Engineering. It was the first graduating class of the new school. Prior to that, the only nuclear-related degrees were in inter-disciplinary engineering.
By another strange twist of fate, I ended up in Zurich, Switzerland, where I see that Michael has relatives. It's a small world. I transferred from the staff of Dresden Nuclear Power Station to the Commonwealth Edison office in Chicago, to support the physical security systems of the nuclear stations. I took night classes in German, and after a couple of years, went on an exchange program to Austria, then got a job in Switzerland in 1986, and never went back.
I'm sad to hear that Michael passed away at such a young age. I have fond memories of my time working at the power station where we were on the engineering staff.

I knew Kork from his first day at Dresden, spent a lot of weekends together. The memories of our good times in the 70’s and 80’s will never leave me. Fridays on State and Division, taking the Z28 to Purdue football games (we know it goes at least 130). Had a great heart, treated everyone as his best friend. Most of all, I will not forget how he always made sure everyone was having a good time and was taken care of, and that laugh….
Nuclear Operations Center named in Mike’s memory, well deserved, wonderful memorial, I know it meant a lot to him.
