Sister Therese Greaney, OSF (1921 - 2016) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois on November 4, 2016. A native of Cicero, Illinois, she was one of eight children born to the late Catherine and Patrick Greaney. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: James, William and Patrick and her sisters Margaret Ansley, Catherine Earle, Rita Bartz MacMillan and Maryellen Riorden. Sister Therese was a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 76 years.
Before entering religious life, Sister Therese was a member of St. Rita of Cascia Parish in Chicago, Illinois, and attended the parish grade school. She graduated from St. Francis Academy (Joliet Catholic Academy) in Joliet, Illinois, and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis) in Joliet.
Sister Therese (Sister M. Denis) began her ministry in the field of education in 1943 at St. Raymond School in Joliet. She ministered in the field of education for fifty years, teaching grades 1 to 4 in schools throughout Illinois and Ohio including 33 years in Catholic Grade schools in the Diocese of Joliet. In 1992 she joined the Senior Companion Program under the auspices of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Joliet, a ministry that she participated in until 2006. She enjoyed visiting the elderly in their homes and sharing stories with them. In 2008 Sister began her ministry of Community Service at Guardian Angel Home and then at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home where she resided until her death.
The wake for Sister Therese will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Thursday morning, November 10, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
