Obituary of Dr. Elda Peart Buchanan, Ed.D

Dr. Elda Peart Buchanan, Ed.D Dr. Elda "Ellie" Peart Buchanan passed away at Lutheran Hillside Village, Peoria, IL on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the age of 80. Ellie is preceded in death by her parents, Robert M. and Elizabeth A. Schwanke Peart and her brother-in-law, James P. Byrd. Survived by her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Byrd of Encinitas, CA; her sons, David N. Wilson of Peoria Heights, IL. and Robert J. Wilson (Joanna Powell-Wilson); two grandchildren, Cory Wilson and Sarah E. (Porschia) Wilson all of Houston, TX. Ellie was born in Joliet, IL on October 11, 1936. She graduated from Joliet Central High School in 1952 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Speech and Language Arts from Illinois State University (Normal Teachers College, Normal, IL in 1957). She obtained her Master's Degree and Ed.D in Education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL graduating in 1972. She began her career as a Professor of Education at Bradley University, Peoria, IL in 1972 and retired in 1998. Ellie was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Peoria IL. She was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan for most of her life. Member of Delta Beta Phi Sorority for more than 20 years, she loved to bowl, volunteer at her church and enjoyed working as an Election Precinct Judge. She took great pride in her association with the Illinois Council for Exceptional Children (ICEC). She also loved to travel, especially cruises and to spend as much time as she could with her sister in Southern California. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her long time physician, Dr. Thomas Kouri and the staff of Hillside Lutheran Village for their kind attention and care that will be forever appreciated. Funeral services will he held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Elmhurst Cemetery Chapel, 1212 E. Washington St., Joliet, IL. Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 4pm to 6pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 6801 N. Allen Rd., Peoria, IL 61614. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation Benevolent Fund, 6901 N.
