Age 95. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Manor Court at Liberty Village in Peoria, IL, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 5, 1921, in Joliet, the daughter of the late Gus and Catherine (Griparis) Rousonelos. She was a lifelong resident until 3 years ago before moving to Princeville to live with her daughter and her family. Member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Joliet, Daughters of Penelope and The Philiptochos Society.
Marina's family was her life and joy. She was happiest when there was a gathering of family and friends. She and her husband Pete hosted many family gatherings. Marina also enjoyed gardening in the neighborhood garden. She absolutely loved her Friday night dinner outings with her sisters, nephews Dean and Mike and any other relatives who tagged along. Marge also enjoyed the friendly and not so friendly family UNO, Kings Corners and Rummy games.
Preceded by her parents; husband Pete (January 1993); daughter, Katina Kendall (May 2016); brothers, Peter (Anna), Andy, Mike (Martha), Stan (Nola) Rousonelos; sister, Anne Scaropoulos; brother-in-law, Richard DeJarld; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law in Greece.
Survived by her son, Pete (Pat) of Ypsilanti, MI; daughter Eleni (Mark) Holder of Princeville, IL; son-in-law Howard Kendall, Northville, MI; seven grandchildren, Kristina (Nate) Riehl of Peoria Heights, IL, Michael Holder of Princeville, Mark (Miranda Cundiff) Holder of Kansas City, MO, Katina (Dave) Wright of Dearborn Heights, MI, Matt (Amanda) Apostolou of Chelmsford, MA, Marina Apostolou of Lowell, MA, Dimitri (Amanda) Apostolou of Ypsilanti, MI; great grandchildren, Sophia Apostolou and Zoe Hoffman of Dearborn Heights, MI, Jackson, Kennedy, Aniston Apostolou of Chelmsford, MA, Allistor and Olivander Apostolou of Ypsilanti, MI, sister Zara "Sugar" DeJarld of Shorewood, IL; sister-in-law Mary Rousonelos of Aurora, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews both here and in Greece.
Funeral Services for Marina Apostolou will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 8:45 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway St., Joliet, IL for a 9:30 a.m. service with Fr. Steve Bithos officiating. Internment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials in her name to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund would be appreciated.
