Obituary of James Edward Allegretti
James E. Allegretti
Age 88, of Joliet, and formerly of Villa Park, Elmhurst, and Oak Park, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with his family by his side.
Born February 18, 1928 in Oak Park, he was the son of Aldo and Mary (Sullivan) Allegretti. He worked for Park Farms Cheese, Elmhurst, and later for General Mills, West Chicago, retiring in 1992.
Jim was an avid bowler and wood worker, and enjoyed playing Pinochle and computer solitaire. He also enjoyed watching sports. He supported his grandchildren by attending many choir and band concerts and dance recitals.
He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, and a former member of St. Alexander Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the General Mills 25 Year club.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Josephine (Guardalabene) Allegretti; one daughter, Theresa (Frank) Reis; three sons, Gregory (Kathryn) Allegretti, Mark (Carol) Allegretti, and David (Susan) Allegretti; five grandchildren, Simone and Angela Reis and Joseph, Erin and Megan Allegretti; two brothers, Thomas (Ethel) Allegretti and Dan (Shirley) Allegretti; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; brothers, Aldo, Francis and John Allegretti; and sisters, Mary Marseille and Margaret Johnsen.
Funeral Services for James E. Allegretti will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 N. Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet, for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, Hillside. Memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
