Obituary of Jim Dahlberg

Jim E. Dahlberg "Coach" Age 80. Peacefully Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage, with his family by his side. Born in Atlantic, IA and a Joliet resident since 1972. A graduate of Kirksville Missouri College with a Master's degree in Health Education in 1966. Also a Bachelor of Science graduate of Coe College in 1956 in Cedar Rapids, IA, and Atlantic High School Class of 1949. Retired from Joliet Township High School West Campus in 1991, after over 25 years of service as a life science teacher and coach of athletics. Formerly employed at the Sibley High School in Sibley, IA and Maquoketa High School in Maquoketa, IA as a teacher and coach. Previously employed at his father's meat market in Atlantic, IA. A member of the IRTA and the JARTA Teachers Associations. He was an accomplished vocalist and was a former First Congregational Church U.C.C. of Lockport choir member for many years. One of his greatest loves in life was spending time with family and friends camping and fishing. The Dahlberg Family will like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center Neuro ICU unit. Their professional and compassionate care will always be remembered. Preceded by his parents, Oscar and Pearl Dahlberg. Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joy Dahlberg of Joliet; three sons, Jed (Janet) of Dwight, John (Victoria) of Joliet, and Jay (Tracy) Dahlberg of Minooka; two daughters, Jo (Ted) Slowik of Joliet, and Jill Stanevich of Sycamore, IL; twelve grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Jim Dahlberg will be Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. As it was Jim's request, cremation rites will be accorded following funeral services. Memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated. Private interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
