Obituary of Charles Frederick Thinger

Charles F. Thinger, age 69, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born at home in Chicago on November 25, 1947, he was the son of Charles George and Gladys Edith (nee Cross) Thinger. He served with the United States Army during Vietnam, and was a graduate of DeVry Institute of Technology. Chuck worked in the telecommunications industry for over 40 years and was a proud member of Local #134, IBEW. He was also a member of Illinois Lodge, AF&AM. Chuck will be remembered for the love and pride he had for his family, his unselfishness and willingness to help others, and his talents and ability to fix almost anything. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Shelley Olszewski; one daughter, Wendi (Eric) Temen of Batavia; three grandchildren, Kaydence, Donavyn, and Aryanna; two brothers, Robert (Delores) Winkels and Thomas (Suzanne) Thinger; one sister, Nancy (late Wayne) Gerhke; a sister-in-law, Marion Thinger; numerous nieces and nephews; and his wife's extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Edward Thinger. Funeral services for Charles Thinger will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet. Cremation rites will be accorded following services and interment in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will be at a later date.
