At Rest, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.  Born in Hinsdale and resident of Joliet.  Graduate of Lincolnway Central High School and received her Associates Degree from Joliet Junior College.  A retired school teacher at Dirksen Jr. High.  Karen loved reading, traveling, attending live performances and spending time with her family and friends at Lake Carroll.  

Survived by her loving husband, Mark E. Smith; her sons, Jimmy (Tina) Lowry and Jeff (Saine) Lowry; her grandchildren, Sadie, Matthew, Kai and Cassie; her siblings, Kathy (Dan) Albert, Brian (Lori) Fischer, Mary Carol Gonda, and Dawn (Brandon) Gonda; mother-in-law, Margaret Smith and her sister, Nancy Nicol; sister-in-law of Dave (Jean) Smith, Dawn (Larry) Banks, and Peg (Dave) Schroll;  and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Preceded by her parents, Edward "Bubba" and Marianne Gonda; and her father-in-law, Donald D. Smith.

Funeral Services for Karen R. Smith will be Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 10:45 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, IL.
