Freda Smith

Age 100. Peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Park Pointe Healthcare and Rehab Center in Morris. Born January 13, 1917 in Morris, IL to the late Ed and Ada (nee Michael) Stine. Freda was a lifelong Morris area resident, she grew up on a farm south of town. She was proud of her community and of being educated in the Morris Grade School system and a graduate of Morris Community High School.
On June 20, 1942 she married Robert E. Smith. She worked as a secretary at the United States Agriculture Service in her earlier years. After having two children she became a stay at home mom and finally worked at Morris Construction Company when her children entered high school. Freda was always involved with her family, she remained close to her sisters, her daughters and their children's families. She was a very social person, she loved getting out and being with people. She always had a passion for playing Euchre, playing up until a few years ago when her vision would not allow her to play anymore.
Survived by her daughter, Gloria (Harlan) Hatton; three grandchildren, Ed Brooks, Kate (Travis) Thomas and Tracey (Chris) Dexter; five great-grandchildren and one son in-law, Perry Brooks.
Preceded by her husband, Robert Smith (2012) and one daughter, Janice Brooks.
Funeral services for Freda Smith will be Monday, May 8, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 1201 W. Route 6 (at Deerpath Drive) Morris to the First Presbyterian Church 200 E. Jackson Street, Morris for services at 10 a.m. Pastor Roy Backus officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Memorials to First Presbyterian Church, Joliet Area Community Hospice or The Point Entertainment Committee in her name would be appreciated.
